Gerindra's criticism of Jokowi 'vague': Poempida

I

t was inappropriate for Gerindra Party politicians to criticize Joko "Jokowi" Widodo over his performance as the governor of Jakarta as Gerindra was among the parties that endorsed Jokowi's candidacy during the gubernatorial election in 2012, according to a Golkar Party politician.

Poempida Hidayatullah, a Golkar lawmaker in the House of Representatives who refused to obey Golkar'€™s instruction to support presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, slammed Gerindra's deputy chairman, Fadli Zon, for making statements about the "failures" of Jokowi's administration in the capital.

"Fadli has judged Jokowi as Jakarta governor. If he believes the Jakarta administration has failed, Jokowi's deputy, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, who is a Gerindra politician, must share some of the responsibility," Poempida said on Friday.

"Besides, the Jokowi-Basuki ticket was endorsed by Gerindra in the first place. This means that Gerindra and its chief patron, Prabowo, must also share responsibility when it comes to Jokowi's leadership as governor. Unless, of course, Gerindra previously retracted its support for the pair," he added.

Earlier on Friday, Fadli posted a series of comments on his Twitter account, @fadlizon, about Jokowi's so-called "failures" to deliver.

"The management of street vendors in Tanah Abang was claimed to be a success but the fact is the vendors protested the policy. Relocated vendors are also disappointed because their businesses have been depleted," he said on of the posts.

Fadli also slammed Jokowi's "failure" to deal with Jakarta's severe traffic congestion and flooding.

Jokowi, a Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician, is a presidential candidate with running mate Jusuf Kalla, a former vice president.

Jokowi will compete against Prabowo, whose running mate is National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Hatta Rajasa, during the presidential election on July 9.

The presidential rivalry has broken the PDI-P-Gerindra collaboration in the run-up to the 2012 gubernatorial election.
