he East Jakarta Prosecutor's Office has named four individuals from two construction firms as suspects in corruption cases concerning two projects separately assigned by East Jakarta's public works and agriculture and forestry agencies.
According to the office's special crime unit head, Silvia Deti Rosalina, IS and MS are suspected of failing to meet the specifications of a waterway normalization project that their company was assigned to establish in 52 community units (RW) in East Jakarta.
Meanwhile, JH and ASA are suspected of lessening the quality of a rice paddy field project developed by their company in Ujung Menteng, East Jakarta.
Silvia did not mention the names of the companies involved in the two projects.
The prosecutor's office intelligence head, Asep Sontani, said on Friday that his office was still investigating the Public Works Agency's water channel normalization project, which did not match the specifications outlined in the work contract.
The construction of the project began in 2013.
'The work contract states that the water pipes should be supported by concrete, but the results are different,' Asep said. 'There is no concrete supporting the pipes in Pondok Kelapa and Klender.'
Asep said the district attorney would further investigate the case to determine whether the Public Works Agency's water management department head, Jati Waluyo, was implicated.
'In total, the graft caused Rp 650 million [US$ 55,877] in state losses,' he said.
Silvia said the prosecutor's office was also investigating whether East Jakarta Agriculture and Forestry Agency head Bambang Wisanggeni was implicated in a corruption case concerning the development of a rice paddy field project.
Bambang was named a suspect in a corruption case relating to an urban forest project in Ujung Menteng, with two people from the project's contracting and consulting firms.
The corruption lead to Rp 2.3 billion in state losses.
Silvia said the development of the rice paddy project started in 2012 and was completed in 2013. The development of the project was divided into two phases, consisting of the development of the rice field and the construction of supporting facilities such as office buildings and pavements.
'Many aspects of the completed rice field did not match the specifications in the work contract,' Silvia explained, adding the graft caused estimated state losses of Rp 1.4 billion.
Several projects under the supervision of the East Jakarta municipal administration have been subject to scrutiny due to a number of corruption cases implicating officials and contractors.
A number of subdistrict heads have been arrested and imprisoned for manipulating programs financed by the city administration. (dwa)
