Moeldoko refuses to be drawn on Prabowo dismissal letter

I

ndonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Moeldoko has refused tocomment further on the validity of a letter '€“ widely circulating on theInternet - that recommended former general Prabowo Subianto'€™s dismissal fromthe military.

'€œI was still Lieutenant Colonel at the time and I didn'€™t possess thorough knowledge on what happened. It'€™s inappropriate for me to comment, especially given my position,'€ he said on the sidelines of a sport event in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday.

He said such a letter should be treated as confidential and therefore asked all parties to treat it as such. He also guaranteed that the military had nothing to do with the circulation of the dismissal letter.

'€œTrust me, the military will act in a professional way on this and will also remain neutral and independent throughout the presidential election process,'€ he said.

Beforehand, a letter containing a recommendation from the Officers Honorary Council (DKP) to dismiss then Lt. Gen. Prabowo from military service had widely circulated on the Internet.

Some former council members Lt. Gen. (ret.) Fachrul Rozi and Gen. (ret.) Agum Gumelar confirmed the letter'€™s integrity and said its contents were true, but they had forgotten the details. (dic)
