residential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo reiterated during a campaign event on Wednesday in Cirebon, West Java, that the central government must support creative industries in order to strengthen national and regional economic development.

Previously, during the second presidential debate on June 15, Jokowi pledged to bolster the creative economy if elected.

Jokowi added that creative industries needed government support for promotion at the international level.

"If we want maximum results then we need to prepare substantial financing to invest in and promote our creative industries," he said during a visit to Trusmi batik center in Cirebon on Wednesday.

The Jakarta governor, currently on a leave of absence while he runs for president, told workers in Trusmi to keep improving the quality of their products so that they could enter the international market.

After the batik center, Jokowi visited the Kasultanan Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon to meet with Sultan Sepuh XIV Pangeran Raja Adipati.

The sultan said Jokowi's visit to the palace showed his dedication to the nation's history and culture. He also expressed hope that Jokowi would build more seaports dedicated to tourism, rather than just trade, if he was elected in the July 9 election.

Jokowi agreed with the sultan and said that the government must build upon the archipelago's rich history and culture to further build the nation.

"That potential must be developed and built so that the people can get as much benefit from it as possible," he said.

The visit to Cirebon came amid a six-day tour of West Java, in which Jokowi visited the Indramayu regency on Tuesday and the Majalengka regency on Wednesday.

The Jokowi-Kalla ticket is supported by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), along with its coalition partners, the NasDem Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the Hanura Party, which represents 39.97 percent or 207 out of the total 560 seats in the next House of Representatives.
