ity-owned transportation operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) will be offering free bus rides to commemorate Jakarta's 487th anniversary from Saturday to Sunday.

"The aim of the program is to encourage and increase the public's love for public transportation, which has become the backbone of Jakarta's transportation system," Transjakarta spokesperson, Sri Ulina Pinem, told tempo.com on Friday.

On Saturday, passengers can ride the Transjakarta bus for free from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. from corridor 1 (Blok M-Kota) to corridor 12 (Pluit-Landmark Auto Plaza). Transjakarta routes will be shortened in order to accommodate the Jakarta Nite Festival, which will also be held on Saturday night.

The corridor 2 (Pulogadung-Kwitang) route will also be shortened between the hours of 4 p.m. and 12 a.m.

On Sunday, passengers can take advantage of free bus rides in corridors 1, 3 (Kalideres-Harmoni), and 9 (Pinang Ranti-Pluit) from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. Furthermore, corridor 1 service will be available free of charge from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

All Transjakarta services will return to normal at 10 p.m. on Sunday.

"With the free services, we hope that more people will try and experience what it is like to use the busway. Hopefully the number of passengers will increase in the future," Sri said. (fss)
