KPI wants sex, violence off air for Ramadhan

T

he Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has called on private television networks to only broadcast appropriate programs during the Ramadhan.

'€œWe again remind the television stations to broadcast programs that help Muslims observe the Ramadhan fasting instead of programs that could disrupt the peace,'€ KPI chairman Judhariksawan said, as quoted by Antara news agency on Tuesday.

Judhriksawan emphasized that networks must abide by the 2012 KPI broadcasting code of ethics and standards.

The code of ethics bans television stations from broadcasting erotic dance performances as well as displays of affection like kissing.

The KPI has also appealed to television stations to not broadcast programs that feature men acting or dressing like women, violence and vulgar jokes.

During Ramadhan, local television channels are also advised to not air programs promoting supernatural themes before 10 p.m.

'€œEven if they are aired after 10 p.m. television stations must abide by the regulations'€ Judhariksawan said.
