KPK calls for public input on candidate financial reports

T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has called on the public to give input on the recently posted personal financial statements of the presidential and vice presidential candidates in order to root out discrepancies.

"[The financial reports] are already on the KPK website. If anything is inconsistent, then please report it. We hope for the public to criticize the reports, don't hesitate to report such inconsistencies," KPK deputy chairman Adnan Pandu Praja said at the General Elections Commission (KPU) headquarters in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

Earlier, it was reported that the candidates announced their personal wealth to the public at the KPU headquarters on Tuesday. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto's current wealth was valued at Rp 1.67 trillion (US$140.69 million) and $7.5 million as of May, whereas his running mate Hatta Rajasa is worth Rp 30.23 billion and $75,092.

Rival presidential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo announced that his current wealth was valued at Rp 29.89 billion and $27,633 while running mate Jusuf Kalla's wealth was valued at Rp 465.61 billion and $1.05 million.

Pandu said that public reports would be evaluated against the wealth declared by the candidates in May. If public reports turn out to be true, then the KPK will make them public, Pandu said.

Furthermore, the public should report any inconsistencies before the election on July 9 because such reports may influence voters. (fss)
