Police to close access to Jakarta on Tuesday

T

he National Police have prepared a contingency plan in case chaos erupts in the capital city during the announcement of presidential election winner by the General Elections Commissions (KPU) on Tuesday.

One of the plans was to close access to Jakarta so that masses would not be able to flood the capital city.

"We are ready; we have a plan to close some areas, such as the borders between Jakarta and West Java as well as Jakarta and Banten," National Police chief Gen. Sutarman said in Jakarta on Monday as quoted by kontan.co.id.

He said that there were three and seven spots from Banten and Bandung, respectively, that would be closed tomorrow.

He also called on all supporters of both the Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo-Jusuf Kalla and Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa camps not to come to Jakarta on Tuesday.

Police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) would implement six-layer security at the KPU building.

Meanwhile, TNI commander Gen. Moeldoko said that his team was ready to support the police to enhance security at the KPU building as well as places across the country.

Moeldoko further said the Army'€™s Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad), Army'€™s Special Forces (Kopassus), Navy'€™s Special Forces (Marinir) and Air Force'€™s Special Forces (Paskhas) were ready to help the police. (nfo)
