T

he Constitutional Court (MK) will begin hearings on Aug. 6 onthe lawsuit filed by Prabowo Subianto'€™s and Hatta Rajasa'€™s team of lawyers againstthe General Elections Commission'€™s (KPU) final vote tally of the presidentialelections.

MK head Judge Hamdan Zoelva said the court had been ready to receive the lawsuit from the Prabowo-Hatta lawyers on Friday, as well as to examine whether the documents were complete.

He added that the plaintiffs would be given a day to correct their documents if the court found flaws.

'€œWe will hear the plaintiffs'€™ explanation about the lawsuit on Aug. 6. The justices will offer advice to the plaintiffs if the lawsuit needs to be refined,'€ Hamdan said, as quoted by Antara news agency on Friday.

Hamdan said the plaintiffs should deliver the improved version of the lawsuit a day after the hearings, or on Aug. 7. A second session of hearings would continue on Aug. 8.

Hamdan further said that during the second hearings session the court would also hear explanations and answers from the KPU and the Election Supervisory Committee (Bawaslu).

'€œAfterward, the court will begin more hearings with witnesses and regular sessions for evidence verification, all of which will need around seven working days. The court needs about four days for analysis and preparation of the verdict,'€ he said.

Earlier, Firman Wijaya, head of the Prabowo-Hatta Rajasa legal team, said his group would file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court on Friday, despite the presidential candidate'€™s previous rejection of the KPU'€™s final vote count. (gda)
