Fire ravages hundreds of homes in Kemayoran

A flash fire razed 125 homes on the densely populated Jl. Kemayoran Gembol in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.

Pepen, an eye-witness, said it was not known where the fire started, but residents attempted to douse the flames with buckets of water as it continued to spread to homes left vacant by owners out of town for the Idul Fitri holiday.

She also said that residents from the nearby Grand Palace apartments also assisting in trying to control the fire.

Head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Disaster Mitigation Agency Rahmat Kristianto said 19 fire trucks were deployed to put out the fire.

The fire might have been triggered by a short circuit in one of the vacant homes, he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
