uthorities have raised the ticket price for foreign visitors to the Mount Ijen Crater Natural Park in Jember regency, East Java, from Rp 15,000 (US$1.30) to Rp 150,000 per person.
Jember chapter East Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) head Sunandar Trigunajasa said that the increase was based on Government Regulation No. 12/2014 on types and tariffs on non-tax state revenue. The new admission ticket price comes into effect on Aug. 1.
'The price for an entrance ticket for foreign visitors, especially during holidays, will be set at Rp 150,000 per person, while the ticket price for domestic tourists is also raised from Rp 2,000 to Rp 5,000 per person,' said Sunandar.
Ijen Crater is an active volcano standing 2,386 meters (m) tall at sea surface. It is located at the border between Banyuwangi and Bondowoso regencies, both located in East Java.
The mountain has a green acidic crater lake measuring 960 m by 600 m and a depth of around 200 meters. Sulfur mining for cosmetics production is carried out daily at the crater.
