he National Police said on Saturday that they have determined the identities of the individuals seen in a recent YouTube video that encouraged fellow Indonesians to join and fight with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS.
"We have [determined] the identities of the people but I'm sorry, we cannot disclose their names," National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar told tempo.co on Saturday.
Boy explained that he could not disclose the identities because police were still in the middle of the investigation, but that the individuals in the video were reportedly members of hard-line Islamic groups in Indonesia.
Boy warned the general public to exercise caution when engaging with videos and organizations whose message contradicts Pancasila, the state ideology.
The police are currently working with the Communications and Information Ministry to block the video.
Previously, the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) said that Indonesians who joined or supported ISIL could lose their citizenship and be charged under the Criminal Code.
The BNPT estimates that at least 30 Indonesians are involved in the jihadist movement in Iraq under ISIS and in Syria under Jabhat al-Nusra (JN), a prominent Salafi jihadist organization with ties to al-Qaeda. (fss)
