Bekasi group swear allegiance to ISIL

B

ekasi City Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Siswo revealed on Tuesday that up to 50 people had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) at a mosque in Bekasi city.

Siswo said the people swore their allegiance at Muhajirin Mosque in Pekayon Jaya, South Bekasi district.

'€œThey belong to the Jamaah Ansharut Tauhid [JAT] group under the leadership of Syamsuddin Uba," he said as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that the pledge took place on Sunday and that JAT members also raised the ISIL flag on the mosque's grounds and proclaimed a new organization, the Khilafah Ibrahim. The group claimed that both JAT and Khilafah Ibrahim were now part of ISIL and that they supported the militant group's activities.

Siswo said Syamsudin Uba and his followers had not been arrested, but that the police were monitoring their activities. (dyl/nvn)
