Joko Widodo asks former intel chief to serve as advisor

akarta Governor and president-elect Joko Widodo has asked former National IntelligenceAgency (BIN) chief Gen. A.M. Hendropriyono to join his transition teamas an advisor. The transition team was recently formed to prepare for Jokowi's upcoming administration.

'€œJoko Widodo has asked me to be his advisor,'€ A.M. said on Saturday as quoted by tempo.co.

He added that he was expected to provide insight on matters related to intelligence.

In addition to Hendropriyono, Joko Widodo also earlier asked former Muhammadiyah chairman Ahmad Syafii Maarif to serve as advisor.

The transition team is led by Rini Sumarno, former trade minister in the Megawati administration. Four deputies are tasked with helping Rini; Paramadina University rector Anies Baswedan, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) deputy secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto, University of Indonesia military expert Andi Widjajanto and NasDem party politician Akbar Faizal.
