s many as 18 Indonesian volunteers will depart for Gaza Strip, Palestine on Tuesday evening to deliver humanitarian aid to people in the occupied territory.
Head of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) chapter of the Indonesian National Committee for Palestinians (KNRP), Ahmad Muchlis, said that this year the province dispatched one group of volunteers that would join with other volunteers entering Gaza through Rafah.
'We hope that we can enter Gaza so that we can hand over the humanitarian assistance directly to representatives of the Palestine people,' he said during a press conference prior to the departure on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Ahmad said the volunteers would hand over the assistance to representatives of the Palestinian people or to humanitarian posts on the Gaza Strip border if they were unable to enter Gaza.
He went on to say that the volunteers would channel Rp 1 billion (US$85,368) worth assistance donated by NTB people in Jakarta. The assistance was in the form of two ambulances, health equipment, medicines and foods.
It is the third time NTB will have sent volunteers to Gaza this year. The first delegation had successfully entered Gaza via Rafah, Egypt, while the second delegation was able to reach the territory via Jordan. (dyl/ebf)
