SBY visits Timor Leste for bilateral cooperation

P

resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is visiting Timor Leste to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries from Aug. 25 to Aug. 27.

Presidential spokesman for foreign affairs Teuku Faizasyah said that Yudhoyono, accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, would conduct a meeting with Timor Leste President José Maria Vasconcelos, popularly known as Taur Matan Ruak, and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao.

'€œTopics which they will discuss during the meeting relate to bilateral cooperation on economy, education, and connectivity. They will also discuss regional and global issues of concern,'€ he said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.

He added that that the two leaders would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on various issues, including maritime and fisheries; culture and education; information and technology; and regional economic development.

'€The Indonesian president will also conduct a groundbreaking ceremony at the Indonesia Cultural Center in Dili [Timor Leste'€™s capital city],'€ he said.

Last year, Ruak conducted his first official visit to Indonesia after taking office in 2012 and met with President Yudhoyono at the State Palace. After the meeting, Yudhoyono said that the two countries would continue to improve their partnership in the future. (alz)
