Jakarta to conduct huge reshuffle of civil servants

J

akarta Employment Agency head I Made Karmayoga said that the city administration would soon reshuffle civil servants on a massive scale in a bid to improve the city'€™s public services.

He said that Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama had ordered a reshuffling of more than 2,000 civil servants to take place in September ahead of Governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo's inauguration as the seventh president in October.

'€œThis [massive reshuffle] is expected to be the largest in Indonesia'€™s history,'€ he said as quoted by kontan.co.id.

He said that the city administration would demote, promote and relocate civil servants to new posts. Civil servants up for reshuffling include subdistrict heads, district heads, regents, mayors, bureau heads and agency heads.

In June, Ahok said that he would replace most of the city'€™s agency heads after the presidential election in July because he was disappointed with their performances. He said that they worked slowly and could not be trusted.

Ahok, for example, said that he was most frustrated with Public Works Agency head Manggas Rudi Siahaan for having failed to fix damaged roads in the city. In August, he dismissed four civil servants from the city'€™s housing agency due to serious violations. (alz)
