he police are investigating an attempted robbery against US citizen Melinda Kay Swanson, 31, on Aug. 25 in Bukit Sulap, Lubuk Linggau, South Sumatra.
'We are still gathering facts and evidence,' South Sumatra Police chief spokesman Sr. Comr. Djarot Padakova said in Palembang on Tuesday. Djarot said the incident occurred at around 11 a.m. as Swanson, who works as a judo instructor, was traveling to the Bukit Sulap resort area on a motorcycle.
As she arrived at the location, she was allegedly approached by several men intending to seize her motorcycle and handbag. Swanson became suspicious and fled in the other direction.
'However, according to eyewitnesses, the perpetrators then fired shots at her, which hit her left thigh,' said Djarot.
Swanson, who has been living in a rented house in Talang Bandung Kanan subdistrict, Lubuk Linggau Barat II district, Lubuk Linggau, for the past two years, was being treated at the Dr. Sobirin Hospital in Musi Rawas regency after sustaining gunshot wounds to her leg and both her arms.
