resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's family lawyer Palmer Situmorang said on Wednesday there was nothing negative about a mention of First Lady Ani Yudhoyono during the trial of disgraced former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum, who has been indicted for graft.
'Even if what Nazaruddin said during the trial was true, then it reflects a positive move by Ibu Ani as she just wanted to give a reminder [about a state project in Malang],' Palmer said on Wednesday, referring to a statement of graft convict and former Democratic Party treasurer Muhammad Nazaruddin, who testified in Anas' trial on Monday.
Nazaruddin said the First Lady once sent a text message to Anas reminding him to complete the payments on a project at Malang State University, East Java.
'There is a project in Malang under Rosa's [graft convict Mindo Rosalina Manulang] authority, which is said to have belonged to Anas as well. The vendor in the project has been left unpaid. Please, finish everything to prevent any trouble,' Nazaruddin said at the court on Monday, citing the First Lady's text message.
Palmer said the First Lady's message did not mean Ani was involved in Anas' corruption. 'She reminded a party official to keep the good name of the party intact'.
