Jakarta: Taufik H. Mihardja, the chief editor of Kompas.com, died on Wednesday. He was 52.

Kompas deputy chief editor Budiman Tanuredjo said that Taufik'€™s wife phoned him at 5:30 a.m. to say that her husband had died.

'€œHe could not be awoken for dawn prayers,'€ Budiman said as quoted by kompas.com.

Taufik, who graduated with a degree in English literature from the YAPARI Tourism Academy in Bandung, West Java, became Kompas daily'€™s editor for politics, law and human rights in 1998 and was deputy chief editor from 2008 to 2012.

In 2007, he became director of Kompas Cyber Media, responsible for Kompas TV and Kompas.com, where he was active until Tuesday night, Budiman said.
