SBY, Jokowi claim Bali meeting a new tradition in power transition

P

resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono praised a closed-door meeting between him and president-elect Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo, which was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, saying that it is part of their attempt to prepare a smooth power transition.

'€œThis won'€™t be our last meeting. There will be other follow-up meetings after this,'€ Yudhoyono addressed a press conference on Wednesday.

Yudhoyono said he had shared his minds on various important matters with Jokowi during the two-hour meeting but then refused to elaborate further. He said further technicalities would be served as topic discussions between his team of presidential staff and Jokowi'€™s team from the house of transition.

Yudhoyono had also shrugged off any speculations that the meeting would be utilized to negotiate political interests.

'€œThis meeting isn'€™t about political negotiation,'€ he said.

Commenting on the meeting, Jokowi said he appreciated Yudhoyono'€™s insights, especially those on the 2015 state budget.

'€œI appreciate the insights, especially those concerning the 2015 state budget. Off course we will have follow up sessions to further discuss the technicalities,'€ he said.

Jokowi expected that by doing this meeting, the upcoming administration could learn from its predecessor.

Previous speculation surfaced that Jokowi would use the meeting to ask Yudhoyono'€™s administration to increase the prices of subsidized fuel as to avoid further deficit in the state budget. (dic)
