his is a comment on a letter titled 'Alleged corruption at the airport,' (The Jakarta Post, Aug. 27, p8).
After reading this article I can´t understand the complaint.
If I enter a country I should know about the rules and laws and if I overstay a visa, even for a day or a few hours, it´s my own mistake and I should be ready to be punished for this.
Indonesians overstaying their visas here in the European Union have to face strict sanctions and in some cases they are even put in custody for a few days.
Also, comparing corruption in Europe and Indonesia I can only tell that there is not much difference and if you see the history maybe you remember more than 300 years of Dutch colonialism with corruption everywhere.
So we should leave our colonialist thinking behind and accept the existing laws of countries we are visiting.
