he Riau Prosecutor's Office has detained Pelalawan Deputy Regent Marwan Ibrahim for his alleged involvement in corruption on land acquisition for the expansion of the Bhakti Praja regency administrative office complex that cased Rp 38 billion (US$3.3 million) in state losses.
'He has been placed in custody at the Kulim detention center in Pekanbaru,' Riau Prosecutor's Office head Setia Untung Arimuladi said on Thursday, adding that the detention was effective for 20 days and would be extended if needed.
'We detained him out of fear that he would flee, tamper with or conceal evidence, repeat the crime and/or interfere with the case,' said Setia.
According to Setia, the corruption took place over four fiscal years, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011, during which time Marwan served as Pelalawan regency secretary.
