"The rupiah rebounded after experiencing some corrections over the past few days due to technical factors," Bank Himpunan Saudara analyst Rully Nova said in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that investors conducted short-term transactions in the domestic market during the closing session, thereby creating fluctuations of the rupiah.
"As we haven't seen enough sentiment from the domestic market regarding the plan to increase subsidized fuel prices, the players are doing quick transactions," he said.
He said, however, that the rupiah could depreciate next week.
Separately, Monex Investindo Futures head of research Ariston Tjendra said that tension in Ukraine had created negative sentiment toward assets in emerging countries.
"Later tonight, the US will release a number of economic data such as business activities in the country. The data will move the domestic market next week," Ariston said.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's mid-rate data showed the rupiah was traded at Rp 11,717 per dollar, down from Rp 11,682 per dollar. (nfo)
