driver was seriously injured and two passengers,including a child, suffered less severe injuries when an electric commutertrain collided with their car at the railway crossing in Patal Senayan, SouthJakarta, on Friday morning.
City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said after the incident that the driver, who suffered a fractured skull, and a child and a woman passenger, believed to be the child's nanny, were rushed to the Medika Permata Hijau Hospital.
Another child traveling in the car was uninjured.
Rikwanto said the collision appeared to have occurred when the driver forced his way across the railway line as the commuter train was about to pass. He added that the barrier had descended and the siren was sounding.
The driver was apparently in a rush to take the two children to their school in Menteng, Central Jakarta.
