he Yogyakarta Police have detained Florence Sihombing, a graduate student who was reported to the police for insulting Yogyakarta on her Path account.
The Yogyakarta Police's special crime unit head Sr. Comr. Kokot Indarto said that Florence had refused to cooperate with the police during the preliminary questioning.
'She didn't sign the dossier after the questioning,' he said on Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that Florence would be detained for 20 days at the Yogyakarta Police detention center.
Florence's lawyer Wibowo Malik slammed the police's decision to detain his client, insisting that they had no grounds on which to detain Florence.
'I cannot accept this detention. I doubt if the detention is even official,' he said.
Florence, a graduate student at Gadjah Mada University's school of law, had earlier drawn opprobrium on Twitter for her harsh comments regarding Yogyakarta. The story began when Florence was denied the privilege of jumping the line to fill her motorbike at a gas station in Lempuyangan, Yogyakarta.
She took to Path to express her anger, her comments then being spread on Twitter, triggering the outcry. She was reported to the police by certain groups, despite previously having apologized.(dic)
