he implementation of the 'blue economy' concept will encourage the growth of sustainable industry and eventually boost the welfare of the people, according to a government official.
Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Syarif Cicip Sutardjo claimed that the concept would encourage the utilization of environmentally friendly energy such as wind and tidal power.
''Blue economy' has encouraged the growth and development of new maritime-based industries,' the minister said on Monday.
Several regions including Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara and Nusa Penida and Bali are considered to have successfully implemented the 'blue economy' concept, Antara reported.
Syarif added that the nation needed to strengthen its commitment to implementing the 'blue economy' by cooperating with other countries.
'Only with strong partnerships will maritime resources boost economic growth,' he insisted.
