nited Development Party (PPP) politician Arwani Thomafi said on Monday that the party did not have to convene a national congress, or muktamar, to make a decision about joining the coalition of president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
Arwani, secretary for the PPP's political faction at the House of Representatives, said that the party did not stage a national congress when it decided to support the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa presidential ticket.
'When the decision was made, the party only staged a national leadership meeting,' Arwani said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Jokowi's hopes of securing support from major political factions at the House could be dashed, with the Golkar Party and the Democratic Party looking to back away from plans to join the ruling coalition.
