Selfie lovers, behold the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom

Samsung is calling for the attention of selfie lovers everywhere.

The South Korean firm is touting the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom as the '€œsmartphone with a real camera'€ with a zoom potent enough to capture grains of sand, making them appear like ping pong balls.

The Samsung K Zoom is the latest addition to the previous three smartphones, including the flagship Galaxy Camera, which marry digital camera capabilities with smartphones.

This time around, the K Zoom sports a camera with 10x optical zoom, more than double the 4x optical zoom afforded by the Galaxy S5.

Besides big zoom capabilities, the camera sports 20.7 megapixels '€” ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S5'€™s 16 megapixel camera.

The K Zoom is also equipped with image stabilizers to cut the noise when zooming from a long distance.

As a result of these specifications, the K Zoom does a pretty good job of maintaining the clear outlines of faraway objects.

However, the camera strains slightly when zooming in. One can actually hear the creak of the machinery behind the Samsung lens. Avoid pinching outward too quickly or risk having the camera freeze for a moment.

The screen resolution of the K Zoom is a mean 720 x 1,280 pixels, which reduces the sharpness of images on the screen, including icons, when compared to the Galaxy S5'€™s resolution, measuring 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. This is quite contradictory considering that the K Zoom is a camera-loaded smartphone.

Being a camera-strong phone, the K Zoom comes with the usual slew of camera applications that will occupy selfie lovers for hours.

Users can use the Pro Suggest facility to take pictures with effects while taking them, or add filters to the photos using the pre-installed editing app, Studio.

Samsung has also embedded the Pro Suggest Market app, which allows users to download modes and filters, such as food for those who cannot take a bite of their meal without sharing an image of it with the world.

Yet, users of the Samsung K Zoom might want to cut down their carb intake. A drawback for attaching powerful lenses that pop out when taking a picture is bulk. The body of the K Zoom is roughly two-centimeters thick, with the camera lenses jutting out of the body.

Compared to the slim, 7.6-millimeter thick Galaxy S5, the K Zoom will not slide easily into any jean pocket. The almost 200-gram K Zoom will also make pockets sag lower than the 145-gram Galaxy S5.

The dimpled shell protects a hexa-core processor that powers the intensive tasks the smartphone has to perform. The processor in this smartphone, therefore, packs more punch than the Galaxy'€™s S5 quad-core.

In addition, the K Zoom comes with 2GB RAM and 8GB internal memory and can support memory cards of up to 64GB to ensure enough space for a library of images and videos.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom offers unparalleled image capturing quality compared to most other smartphones on the market - something that photography hobbyists, travelers and food lovers might look at.

However, those using the smartphone must be willing to see through the additional bulk it packs to do what it is meant to do.
