n Australian man named Mack David Sansom, 31, was found dead in the garden of a four-star hotel near Kuta, Bali on Friday night at around 9 p.m. local time.

'€œFrom initial investigations at the crime scene, we did not find anything suspicious. We allege that the victim committed suicide,'€ South Denpasar Police chief Comr. Nanang Prihasmoko said on Saturday.

He said that according to a member of staff at the hotel, the victim looked troubled when they had met in the lobby, around 30 minutes before he was found dead.

'€œThe staff member said the victim told him he had heard loud bird sounds around his room. He also said he couldn'€™t sleep because of the sound, but there were no birds at the hotel. It seemed that the victim was hallucinating,'€ Nanang said.

He said according to CCTV footage in the corridor in front of Sansom'€™s room, the victim had repeatedly entered and exited his room. The footage also showed no-one else had entered Sansom'€™s room.

Nanang said the police had not found any drugs or alcohol in the hotel room.

He added the police would coordinate with the Australian Consulate and the victim'€™s family to obtain a permit to conduct an autopsy.

Sansom was holidaying in Bali alone. He had checked in at the hotel on Sept. 8 and was due to check out on Saturday.
