The North Maluku National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPD) reported that the boat loaded with 35 passengers sank after it was hit by a 2-3 meter wave at about 8:30 a.m.
Nine passengers of the boat, which departed from Orifola village in Falabisahaya district to Sanana, Sula Islands, were rescued.
A joint team comprising maritime police, Indonesian Military (TNI) and Sula Port management is continuing its search for the missing passengers.
