Gerindra Party deputy chief patron Hashim Djojohadikusumo has lambasted Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama for his abrupt resignation from Gerindra, the party that nominated him for deputy governor during the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2012.
Hashim said he was very disappointed with Ahok for sending a resignation letter without any prior discussions with the party's top officials, including the chief patron and losing presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto.
'When I asked him [Ahok] if he had met Prabowo [before tendering his resignation] and his answer was no, I scolded him. He was speechless,' he told reporters at a conference in Jakarta on Monday. Hashim, who is also Prabowo's brother, scolded Ahok for not sharing his concerns with the former general.
Your comments:
Hashim is right! Ahok may have excellent reasons for leaving Gerindra but he should have told Prabowo face-to-face.
Both would then have had a chance to explain their positions to each other. A democratic culture demands being prepared to account for one's decisions.

Hashim is quoted in the article as saying he scolded Ahok for his resignation. Scolded him?
Hashim's behaving like a feudal lord (as he seems to view himself) who treats everyone else as if they are below contempt. 'Advised him' would have been more civilized, your highness.

All the money you possess can't buy loyalty from Ahok. Who are you to chide an incoming governor?
Ahok's integrity is far superior to yours.

You 'scolded' him. Welcome to the new world. Ahok answers to the people, not you or your bag of money.
Well done, Ahok. You are a man of principle.

Gerinda only has itself to blame for Ahok leaving.
The party knows what provoked his departure.

Can somebody explain why Ahok joined Gerindra in the first place? What did he expect its attitude to democracy would be?
Why is everyone applauding Ahok for leaving Gerindra now, when what they should be doing is criticizing Ahok for joining Gerindra in the first place.

Hashim can call for a thorough review of how an impossible-to-lose coalition actually lost by a mere 8 million votes.
Prabowo should start to keep himself fit and robust to play the role of the opposition leader in the House of Representatives.
