ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri has announced a new stance for the party, which will act as the main supporter of the upcoming administration of Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and Jusuf Kalla.

'€œNow we face our true challenge. As the government'€™s main supporter, we must make sure that our cadres always work for the sake of the people, prioritizing hard work, transparency and compassion,'€ Megawati told the PDI-P national congress currently underway in Semarang.

Megawati has also asked president-elect Joko Widodo to always bear in mind the party'€™s ideology when serving as president.

'€œIdeology must be behind every decision a leader makes,'€ she said.

As many as 1,500 party cadres from throughout the archipelago are attending the congress, including representatives from other political parties: National Mandate Party (PAN) deputy chief Drajad Wibowo and head of PAN faction at the House of Representatives Tjatur Sapto Edy have been sighted.

United Development Party (PPP) chairman Emron Pangkapi and deputy secretary-general Isa Muchsin were also seen at the venue. Both PAN and PPP are members of the Red-and-White Coalition led by the Gerindra party.

Emron is currently in conflict with Suryadharma Ali, the former PPP chairman who is refusing to relinquish his position. Emron and Suryadharma have reported one another to the police over the internal conflict.(dic)
