AKARTA: Emma Watson, erstwhile Harry Potter star and current UN goodwill ambassador, delivered a rousing speech on feminism before the UN General Assembly in New York.

'€œThe more I have spoken about feminism'€, the 24-year-old actress said, '€œthe more I have realized that fighting for women'€™s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating ['€¦.] this has to stop,'€ Watson said in her speech on Saturday.

Watson, who was launching the UN'€™s He for She program, was widely praised by outlets as diverse as E! Online and the Washington Post for her speech.

'€œBoth men and women should feel free to be strong, Watson said. '€œIt is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals.'€
