ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) executive Eva Kusuma Sundari is claiming that all figures proposed by president-elect Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo as candidates for his upcoming Cabinet had to be endorsed by the party'€™s newly reelected chairperson, Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Therefore, she said, Jokowi should first inform Megawati of his choices and then wait for her endorsement even though he, as the president-elect, had the constitutional right to select the members of his Cabinet.

Eva made the statement in response to reporters'€™ question about her possibility of being a minister in Jokowi'€™s Cabinet.

After Jokowi published a survey, called '€œPeople'€™s choices for an alternative Cabinet'€, on jokowicenter.com in late July, many people had asked the Jakarta governor, who will take office as president on Oct. 20, to appoint Eva as minister for social affairs or manpower and transmigration minister because she had proven herself by having been actively involved in various social affairs in the country.

'€œI have never asked Jokowi to select me as a minister, although I get tons of support from people. Despite having people'€™s support, it would be impossible for me to become a minister without Bu Megawati's approval,'€ she said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com. (alz)
