resident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has agreed to accept his nomination as the next president of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). He announced his intention during a speech before the GGGI leaders' gathering held during the UN Climate Summit 2014 in New York.
According to gggi.org, Yudhoyono will serve as GGGI assembly president from November, less than a month after he is set to hand over the presidency to president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
'I see this nomination as an opportunity for action ' for service to the cause of inclusive and sustainable growth. I regard it also as recognition of what Indonesia has achieved in mainstreaming green economics in its development,' Yudhoyono said.
Yudhoyono will replace current GGGI president Lars Lokke Rasmussen, who is a former Danish Prime Minister and the leader of the Denmark Liberal Party.
GGGI director general Yvo de Boer provided his assurances that under Yudhoyono's leadership, the GGGI would strengthen its contribution to developing countries' economic growth and climate resilience.
The GGGI is a Seoul-based intergovernmental organization built to support and promote the new model of economic growth known as 'green growth'. It partners with countries to help them build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, are less carbon intensive and are more resilient to climate change.
