he tires on a Boeing B737-300 aircraft operated by privately owned carrier Sriwijaya Air burst upon landing at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday afternoon.
No casualties or injuries were reported. The plane, which flew in from Manokwari, West Papua, was carrying 156 people.
'All 150 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated and taken to the airport terminal,' state-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I spokesperson's for Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Rio Hendarto, told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.
All four rear tires of the plane burst upon landing on the runway at 1:22 p.m. Makassar time.
The damaged aircraft was towed from the runway to the parking bay two hours after the incident occurred, causing two-and-a-half-hour delays in departing and arriving flights.
Meanwhile, Sriwijaya Air's district manager in Makassar, Sri Budianto, said the company was investigating the cause of the incident.
Sri said the aircraft was flightworthy and assured that its technicians in Manokwari had inspected the B737-300 aircraft according to the standard operating procedure of the civil aviation regulations before it took off. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
