11 witnesses testify during hazing trial

ight students of SMA 3 state senior high school in South Jakarta and three adults testified during a trial of two minors at the South Jakarta District Court on Thursday in the case of the death of 16-year-old Arfiand Caesar Al Irhami following a mountain-climbing trip.

The victim's mother, Diana Dewi, was one of the adults that testified during the closed hearing for a male student and a female alumnus of the school.

'The other adults are the parents of students who were on the committee for the trip,' Diana said.

The witnesses also testified during a separate trial later in the afternoon for a suspect, a male alumnus, who was considered an adult.

Previously, four SMA 3 students were given suspended 18-month prison sentences and two years' probation for negligence causing Arfiand's death, under Article 359 of the Criminal Code.

So far nine people have been implicated in the hazing case. Four have received a verdict, another four are being tried and one, an alumnus, is awaiting trial.

The case of another victim of the mountain-climbing trip, 10th grader Padian Prawiro, is still being investigated by the police.
