AKARTA: Screenwriter Salman Aristo has been keeping busy preparing for his new project: a biographic film about founding father Mohammad Hatta ' also known as Bung Hatta.
'We are doing research for a year. I'm reading more than 70 books about Bung Hatta, including his memoir. After I finish reading the books, I will begin writing the script,' Salman was quoted by tempo.co.
The 37-year-old filmmaker said the challenge in writing a script about the Declaration of Independence co-proclamator was how to fit Hatta's life journey into a single movie.
Salman said, for example, that deciding how best to depict Hatta's struggle for Indonesian independence was difficult.
'It's also hard to decide how to show his introduction of the concept of an Indonesian nation, which he made as a student before becoming a pivotal figure in the republic's history,' he said.
Slated for production in early 2015, Salman will be working with director Erwin Arnada. According to the writer and director, the main cast has yet to chosen.
