Parking men paid twice minimum wage

T

he monthly salary of attendants operating parking meters on Jl. Sabang in Central Jakarta is twice the regional minimum wage, according to a city official.

Head of the Transportation Agency'€™s parking unit Sunardi Sinaga said that the city administration paid the attendants well so as to deter them from accepting bribes from motorists.

'€œThe parking attendants'€™ salary is twice Jakarta'€™s minimum wage, more than Rp 4 million [US$330]. This means that they must work hard and work honestly,'€ Sunardi said as quoted by wartakotalive.com.

Currently, Jakarta'€™s minimum wage is set at Rp 2.4 million.

'€œIf I find any of them slacking off or accepting illegal levies, they will be fired immediately. We can easily hire someone else to operate the parking meters,'€ Sunardi said.
