obbers made off with a safe containing about Rp 120 million (US$9,860) in cash from a Pizza Hut restaurant on Jl. Jenderal Sudirman in Pekanbaru, Riau, at 4 a.m. local time on Monday.
The robbers are believed to have entered the restaurant by jumping over the fence when two security guards, Datra and Junaidi, were not looking. They then overpowered Datra by smashing his forehead with a rock.
They also easily overpowered Junaidi, who was asleep inside the security post.
Both of them were then tied up and their mouths taped. After seizing a set of keys, the thieves entered the premises after unlocking the door. They fled the moment they had emptied the safe.
Pekanbaru Police crime and intelligence unit chief Comr. Hariwiyawan Harun said the robbery had been reported to police in the morning by a number of employees who found the security guards tied up.
'We will inspect the CCTV recording to speed up the investigation. We will also take statements from the management,' Hariwiyawan said on Monday.
