s part of an attempt to regulate street vendors, the Small and Medium Enterprises Agency, in cooperation with city-owned Bank DKI, has distributed bank cards to 2,000 vendors.
Agency head Joko Kundaryo said the cards had been handed out to vendors in five targeted areas ' Cililitan in East Jakarta, Lorong 103 in Koja, North Jakarta, Meruya and Cengkareng in West Jakarta and Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta.
'We chose these areas as they are easier to regulate. The vendors are permanent and operate in a compact area,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Joko said the cards would be used as license IDs as well as for non-cash transactions. Licensed street vendors will be charged daily fees of Rp 3,000 (24 US cents) to Rp 4,000, payable to the city administration.
