he City Council has approved president-elect and Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's resignation, council speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi has said.
Prasetio, of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), said on Tuesday that a council leadership meeting attended by most faction leaders had agreed to officialize the approval in a plenary session set for Thursday.
'The results of today's meeting will be announced in a plenary session on Oct. 2,' Prasetio stated, adding that the leaders of the PPP (United Development Party), the Gerindra Party and the Golkar Party had not attended the meeting.
'Today's meeting had a quorum so there should be no problem approving the resignation at the next plenary session,' he said.
