A

motorboat carrying 30 members of a wedding party, which had departed from Raas Island in Sumenep regency, Madura, East Java, was reported missing on Monday evening.

'€œWe still don'€™t have a clear idea about what happened. We received information that there was a boat with 30 passengers that departed from Raas Island bound for Pondok Mimbo, Situbondo, and that [the boat'€™s] engine became jammed,'€ Situbondo Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Zainul Arifin said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

He added that the agency was continuing to monitor developments regarding the whereabouts of the vessel, which was reported missing at 6 p.m. local time on Monday.

Zainul further said that based on the information he had received, the boat began to have problems near Menjangan Island, Bali, adding that it began to take on water. But he said beyond that, everything was unclear.

It has also been reported that the motorboat was carrying members of a family who were going to attend a ngunduh mantu ceremony (to introduce the new daughter-in-law to her husband'€™s neighborhood) in Situbondo.
