oreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and his Sri Lankan counterpart, Gamini Lakshman Peiris, agreed to boost economic cooperation between the two countries in a joint commission meeting in Jakarta on Monday.

'€œThis meeting is a concrete realization of good political relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka and what we need to carry this out is to implement concrete economic partnership,'€ Marty said as quoted by Antara news agency.

In the closed-door meeting, the minister said, Indonesia and Sri Lanka agreed to increase economic cooperation especially in the trade, investment, agriculture, fishery and tourism sectors.

Marty said Indonesia and Sri Lanka had trade targets they had to achieve in 2015.

'€œ We aim to increase our trade value to US$1 billion in 2015 but it has not yet been achieved due to some obstacles; thus, we agreed to boost our partnership in this field,'€ said Marty.

The minister further said he had specifically explained to Minister Gamini Lakshman Peiris measures both countries needed to take to ensure their partnership could meet their expected targets.

'€œWe agreed to double these efforts through partnership so relations between the two countries can grow stronger,'€ he said.

On his part, the Sri Lankan minister said his country'€™s partnership with Indonesia would provide a lot of benefits both economically and politically. The partnership would also put forward human resources and health development in the country.

'€œSri Lanka must contribute in its partnerships with other countries, increase common understanding in its political relations with other countries and among benefits we can gain is that we can improve our economy, human resources and health,'€ he said. (ebf)
