O

utgoing Jakarta Governor and president-elect Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo was chosen by New York-based Time magazine to grace the cover of its latest edition published on Oct. 16.

The 53-year-old former furniture manufacturer and exporter, who was raised in a slum area in Surakarta, Central Java adorns a brown batik shirt in his close-up shot on the cover that has a headline that reads: '€œA New Hope: Indonesian President Joko Widodo Is A Force of Democracy'€.

On the inside of the magazine, an article tells of Jokowi'€™s journey thus far and specifically details a story in which Jokowi opted for an economy class seat on a Garuda Indonesia flight from Jakarta to Surakarta just a few weeks ago. (alz)
