he prolonged dry season has forced at least 283 families in Hoi village, Oenino district, Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS) regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, to resort to drinking swamp water usually consumed by cattle. 'I didn't believe it at first but it's true,' TTS Council deputy chairman Alex Kase said on Saturday.
Alex said the water flowed from a swamp to a well, which acted as a filter.
He said the residents then took the water from the well and boiled it before drinking. 'The water is still green, as it might be contaminated by dirt.'
There have been no reports of illness among residents who have consumed the water for almost two weeks.
