The Jakarta Police defended on Friday their firearms policy after their deputy chief, Brig. Gen. Sudjarno, made a controversial comment on Tuesday suggesting that police officers should shoot suspects while chasing them down to make an arrest.
Your comments:
It is a good reason for the population to arm so they can protect themselves from the government.

They would call it 'collateral damage' one may guess. I remember that around a year ago the police in North Jakarta shot at a moving car without warning, which then caused the driver/owner to drive away in panic to look for cover at the next police station because he believed that those trigger-happy police officers were actually thieves who wanted to steal his car.
The excuse later was that the officers believed that the car was a stolen vehicle and saw that as an absolute valid reason to empty their magazines into the car and the driver.
By the way, it was later determined that the car was not stolen and the driver was indeed the rightful owner.
