Sail Tomini to promote tourism in C. Sulawesi

T

he international maritime event Sail Tomini 2015 is expected to help promote tourist destinations in Central Sulawesi province, in particular around Tomini Bay, a tourism industry observer says.

'€œThe annual Sail Tomini event should be designed differently from previous years,'€ Suaib Djafar, a tourism industry observer and doctorate graduate of Padjajaran University, was quoted as saying by Antara news agency.

To do it differently, Suaib added, the organizers should consider addressing at least three aspects, i.e. culture, adventure and nature.

He added that Parigi Moutong district, in which the Sail Tomini event is held, is known as a heterogeneous region where local tribes, such as the Tomini, Tinombo and Moutong, live side-by-side with migrants from Bali.

According to him, the event should reflect the heterogeneity of the local communities, including the promotion of culture and arts that are not originally from the Sulawesi.

Sail Tomini 2015, which includes an international sailing boat and high-mast sailing boat competition, cruise ships open to the public, as well as business forums and exhibitions, will involve three provinces on the island, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo and North Sulawesi. The provinces'€™ administrations expect to hold the event in July, August or September next year.
