P

resident Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Sunday that the appointment of Sudirman Said as energy and mineral resources minister was due to the active role he played in the anti-corruption campaign.

'€œHe [Sudirman] is a reliable business manager and an anti-corruption activist who co-founded the Indonesian Transparency Society [MTI].

"This [energy and mineral] is a big sector. So I delegate its management to you," said Jokowi.

Prior to serving as president director at state weapons maker PT Pindad, Sudirman was a top executive at publicly listed oil contractor PT Petrosea and at publicly listed energy and mining company PT Indika Energy.

Sudirman also worked with Kuntoro Mangkusubroto as his deputy at the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency for Aceh and Nias (BRR).

After his time at the BRR, Sudirman was assigned corporate secretary for state energy company PT Pertamina in 2008 as well as chief of the company's supply chain management that deals with the importation of fuel and crude oil. While at Pertamina, Sudirman was a confidant of then Pertamina president director Ari Soemarno -- the older brother of State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno.
